I could talk about the sturdy construction, or how comfortable the pad is but there are two more important things to cover that make this bench unique and superior to a lot of other benches. One of them is balancing the weights closer to the center of the bench, and the other is having graduated hooks or weight rests. First is the balance of the bench.
I have a Marcy standard level weight bench and as are most benches constructed the support for the resting weights is all the way at the back. There is a straight square tube that goes up with a cup or twin leaves to capture and hold the weights. When you think about this from a mechanical perspective you have a heavy weight, a Popsicle at the end of a stick so to speak. If it wasn't for the fact that you have an extended bench attached to it, it would topple over. The weight of the bench is relatively light but it is sufficient for standard weight levels to keep it upright; that is as long as someone doesn't fall into it. As... Read more
Fantastic Olympic Bench! Very well made!!! This is a very well made Olympic Bench with no play or shake in it whatsoever. This is good to know when your benching heavy weights (I'm lifting 200-260 pounds but the bench says on it that it will go up to 600 pounds!). The padding that you sit/lay down on is very soft, yet its firm enough to give you plenty of support when your lifting heavy weights. A nice feature that this bench has that I haven't seen in a lot of other benches on the market is an elevated spotter platform. The elevated spotter platform built into this bench makes the job of the spotter much easier. For example, without this elevated spotter platform, a spotter isn't able to get as close to the bar as they could have if they had this spotter platform. I find that the closer you get to the bar, the easier it is to help the person your spotting lift the weight if they can't handle it. It's kind of hard to explain, but once you try this spotter platform, there's no going back... lol
