the *best* adjustable dumbbell ever!, November 22, 2011 By This review is from: StairMaster Pair of TwistLock Adjustable Dumbbells (100-Pounds) (Sports) This is the slickest adjustable dumbbell I have ever seen or owned. And I have owned a few. Trust me this one is worth the price, unlike some of the more popular ones like Bowflex and Powerblock. You will know what I mean the minute you get them. Forget the cheap ones, they jam and drop weights.
This one does exactly what those do but without the bulk, long bars and clumsy handles. The handles are rubbery and comfortable. It adjusts in 5 lbs increments up to 50lbs without being off balance. And it picks up the plates you need without any extra length. Twisting the handle to adjust the weight works very well. It's lightning quick, easy and never jams. Oh and the weights don't clang together when you workout like the others I have used. It is all metal, even the holder has an aluminum base. No plastic to break on this one, which is one of the biggest complaints of the other brands. In my opinion this is the only one to buy.

They are the best of any of these type dumbbells (and I've tried most of them). They don't rattle, they are super easy to change weights, and they get smaller as you use less weight.
The problem is I ordered my second pair of these from Amazon and they only sent me *one* of the dumbbells (i.e., not a pair!). I called to have them send the missing one, but apparently they don't have the technology to rectify the error that way, so they forced me to send the one back which, since these are 50lb weights, was a huge expense for Amazon. They should fix their logistics on this item. The sad part is that Amazon no longer sells them, so I couldn't even replace the ones I had ordered!

This design is so much better than the others - actually the same size as real dumbbells at 5 lbs all the way up to 50 lbs. The other designs I looked at were so long and bulky. Plus this one you just turn the handle to adjust the weight instead of turning multiple dials or sliding levers. Brushed aluminum cradles are nice as well. Totally recommend to anyone looking for a nice quality set.
